Privacy Policy

Learn how Filecoo accesses, processes, and protects your information.

Effective: August 28, 2026Last updated: August 28, 2026

Filecoo (the “App”) is a tool for transferring and managing files between user devices over a local network. This Policy explains how the App accesses, processes, and protects information and describes your related rights.

By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App’s file-sharing features.

1. Developer and contact details

The App is provided by the Filecoo developer. If you have questions about this Policy, the App’s data practices, or your rights, contact us by email.

2. Information we process

2.1 Files and folders you choose to share

The App accesses content only when you actively select a shared folder or upload, download, rename, move, create, or delete a file. By default, the App accesses only its dedicated folder. Access to any other folder requires your explicit authorization through the Android system file picker.

File contents, names, folder structures, and related metadata are processed only to provide the local file-management and transfer actions you request. The developer does not receive or centrally store this content.

2.2 Local network and connection information

To connect devices, the App locally processes the local IP address, port, connection status, and network requests made by the browser. A QR code may contain a local address and port so another device can connect.

This information is used to establish and maintain the current local-network share and is not sent to a cloud server controlled by the developer. The local sharing address stops working when the service ends.

2.3 Permission-related information

  • Network and Wi-Fi state: to check network availability, start the local service, and allow other devices to connect.
  • Nearby Wi-Fi devices: to create or manage a local hotspot on supported Android versions. The App does not use this permission to infer physical location.
  • Location (Android 12 and earlier only): older Android versions tie certain Wi-Fi features to location permission. The App requests it only to create or manage a local hotspot and does not continuously track, record, or upload your location.
  • Notifications: to display a foreground-service notification while sharing is active.
  • Folder access: to access folders you explicitly choose through the system file picker.

You can revoke permissions in system settings, but the related features may stop working.

2.4 Browser environment information

The browser client locally reads the browser-provided User-Agent to determine whether it is running inside an embedded browser such as WeChat, QQ, Instagram, or Facebook, and to advise you to use a system browser when downloads may be restricted.

This check occurs only on the current page. The User-Agent is not sent to the developer for this purpose and is not used for advertising, profiling, or cross-app tracking.

3. How we use information

We process the information described above only to:

  • display, transfer, and manage files you select;
  • establish and maintain local-network connections between devices;
  • generate a connection QR code and display sharing status;
  • provide upload, download, and file-operation results;
  • identify embedded browsers that may not support downloads and provide instructions; and
  • operate and secure sharing features and handle errors.

The App does not use information for advertising, profiling, behavioral analytics, or automated decision-making, and does not sell personal information.

4. Information sharing and third parties

The App does not upload files or personal information to a server operated by the developer and does not include advertising or analytics SDKs.

When you start sharing and allow another device to connect, files and related information you select are made available to that device according to your actions. This is a device-to-device transfer initiated and controlled by you. Share only with devices and people you trust, and stop the service when finished.

The App uses software libraries including NanoHTTPD, ZXing, and AndroidX DocumentFile to provide a local HTTP service, generate QR codes, and access authorized folders on your device. Their inclusion does not mean your information is sent to the maintainers of those projects.

We will not disclose personal information to other third parties unless required by law or necessary to protect the lawful rights and interests of users, the public, or the developer. Because the current version does not operate a backend that collects user data, the developer generally has no user content to disclose.

5. Data storage and retention

Files remain on the device and in the folder you choose until you move or delete them. Folder permissions are stored locally by Android and the App. You can revoke them through system settings, choose another folder, clear App data, or uninstall the App.

The current version does not create developer accounts or store files, connection history, advertising identifiers, or analytics records on developer servers. Sharing sessions and runtime state are primarily held in device memory and expire when sharing stops, the App terminates, or the system reclaims the process.

Your browser may temporarily retain pages or download history under its own rules. You can clear this information in browser settings.

6. Data security

The App limits folder access through the system file picker and closes the local service when you stop sharing. Use sharing only on a trusted private local network or a hotspot created by the App.

Important security notice: the current version transfers data over local-network HTTP and does not provide end-to-end encryption. A capable third party on the same network may observe or interfere with unencrypted traffic. Do not transfer sensitive files over public or untrusted Wi-Fi, and stop sharing immediately after use.

No security measure can guarantee absolute security. If you discover a security issue, contact us using the email listed in this Policy.

7. International data transfers

The current version does not collect or transfer user files or personal information through servers controlled by the developer. The developer therefore does not initiate international transfers of such data. You control the location and network of any device you choose to connect.

8. Children

The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed primarily to children. It does not knowingly collect children’s personal information. Minors should use file sharing with guidance from a parent or guardian. If you believe a child’s information has been shared improperly, stop the service immediately and contact us using the email in this Policy.

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to information, access, correction, deletion, restriction or objection, withdrawal of consent, and complaint. Because the current version has no account system and does not retain user data on developer servers, you can manage most data directly on your device.

  • Stop sharing to end access from other devices.
  • Revoke permissions and folder access in system settings.
  • Delete files in the shared folder or clear App data.
  • Uninstall the App to remove the App and its local configuration.

To submit a privacy request, email [email protected]. To protect your privacy, we may reasonably verify that the request relates to you, but we will not request information unrelated to handling your request.

10. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy in response to changes in features, laws, or platform requirements. We will revise the “Last updated” date above. If a change materially affects your rights or how information is processed, we will notify you through an in-app notice or another appropriate method.

11. Scope

This Policy applies to the Filecoo Android App and the browser management page it provides over a local network. It does not apply to third-party services, apps, or websites that you choose or access through the App.
